I started my career in the mid-eighties in social work roles, working with vulnerable children and families initially in my native Australia and subsequently the UK. These roles included managing and working in residential units for children and adolescents, child protection social work, and recruiting, training and supporting foster carers.
I then became deputy manager in a community based Family Centre for a large national charity. This work involved group work with children and families, child protection assessments, supervision of staff and social work students. I also started doing individual therapeutic work with children and adults alongside my psychotherapy training.
Upon qualifying as a Psychotherapist, I spent a couple of years working in a specialist project which provided therapeutic individual, group and family work to children, young people and families who had experienced child sexual abuse. This also included group work with adolescents engaging in sexually abusive behaviour.
I started my home based private practice in 2000, and now work with adults only on an individual basis.
As a practitioner, I have Professional Indemnity Insurance and I abide by the UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice along with those of my training organisation. I also aspire to uphold the values and qualities which underpin the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
